Không dưng chi có chuyện nầy trò kia,
Rồi ra trở mặt tức thì,
Bớt lời liệu chớ sân si thiệt đời,
Nàng rằng thề thốt nặng lời,
Có đâu mà lại ra người hiềm sâu,
Còn đương suy trước nghĩ sau,
Mặt mo đã thấy ở đâu dẫn vào,

Sở Khanh lên tiếng rêu rao,
Rằng nghe mới có con nào ở đây,
Phao cho quyến gió rủ mây,
Hãy xem có biết mặt nầy là ai,
Nàng rằng thôi thế thì thôi,
Rằng không thì cũng vâng lời là không,
Sở Khanh quát mắng đùng đùng,
Sấn vào vừa rắp thị hùng ra tay,

Nàng rằng Trời nhẽ có hay,
Quyến anh rủ yến sự nầy tại ai ?
Ðem người đẩy xuống giếng khơi,
Nói lời rồi lại ăn lời được ngay,
Còn tiên tích việt ở tay,
Rõ ràng mặt ấy mặt nầy chớ ai,
Lời ngay đông mặt trong ngoài,
Kẻ chê bất nghĩa người cười vô lương,

Phụ tình án đã rõ ràng,
Dơ tuồng nghĩ mới kiếm đường tháo lui,
Buồng riêng riêng những sụt sùi,
Nghĩ thân mà lại ngậm ngùi cho thân,
Tiếc thay trong gíá trắng ngần,
Ðến phong trần cũng phong trần như ai,
Tẻ vui cũng một kiếp người,
Hồng nhan phải giống ở đời mãi ru,
Kiếp xưa đã vững đường tu,
Kiếp nầy chẳng kẻo đền bù mới xuôi.

Il y a eu trente taels remis entre ses mains.
Sans cela, il n’y aurait pas eu toute cette histoire de fuite et de poursuite.
Son tour joué, il a bruyamment change d’attitude.
Surveillez donc votre langue et ne vous fiez pas trop à cet homme.
Vous y risqueriez votre vie.
Kieu dit : il m’avait pourtant fait des serments en termes graves.
Comment pouvais-je penser qu’il fut un homme dangereux.
Elle était encore à méditer sur les conséquences de sa fuite manquée.
Lorsque la cynique figure du coquin se montra.
So Khanh éleva la voix et sans aucune gêne dit tout haut.
Eh bien, j’ai entendu dire qu’une de ces filles.

Qui a dit des choses pour les nier aussitôt après ?
J’ai encore en mains cette lettre où vous avez écrit les deux caractères Tich Viêt.
Cela s’est bien passé entre vous que voilà et moi que voici et ce n’est le fait de personne autre.
Ces paroles justes émurent toute l’assistance et chacun manifestait ses sentiments sur son visage.
Les uns désapprouvaient la trahison de So Khanh, les autres se moquaient de son manque de cœur.
Le jugement de l’opinion ayant été ainsi clairement prononcé.
Pris de honte, So Khanh chercha le chemin de la retraite.
Après s’être enfermée dans la chambre Kieu se mit à pleurer à chaudes larmes.
Elle souffrait cruellement à la pensée de son sort.
Quel dommage pour son âme dont la pureté est de neige et la blancheur d’argent.
Quand il lui faut subir les injures de la vie.
Eh bien, elle les subit comme les autres.
Qu’elle soit triste qu’elle soit gaie la vie est la vie et il faut l’accepter comme elle est.
Et puis, la vie de belle femme ne dura pas indéfiniment.
Puisque je n’ai pas su dans une de mes existences antérieures mériter un meilleur Karma.
Je ne puis donc échapper durant la vie présente à l’obligation du payement de mon solde débiteur.

The sincerity of her words affected greatly the persons remaining in the place. One branded So Khanh with perfidiousness, the other laughed at his treachery. The verdict was thus clearly returned against this unfaithful hypocrite. Unable to conceal his shame, he hastened to beat a retreat. Confined in her room, Kiêu let bitter tears share her meditations. The more she thought of herself, the more grievously she suffered. What a pity for such a girl purer than snow and whiter than silver. Here she was now in this windy and dusty world undergoing the same misfortunes of life those which had fallen upon others. Whatever sorrow or gaiety may be, Kiêu murmured, thoughtfully, it is but life. Furthermore, the life of a beautiful woman does not last forever. Since I was awkward in perfecting one of my previous existences, now I cannot escape from redeeming what I failed to perform.
